Throughout their lives most people will suffer some form of neck pain and/or headaches. Just like back pain, headaches and neck injuries can have a severely debilitating effect on an individual’s quality of life. Neck pain can be caused from numerous things including, but not limited to, car accidents resulting in whiplash, osteoarthritis, and poor posture. Poor posture is one of the most important causes, as it can exacerbate an existing injury or condition.
Neck pain does not need to be debilitating. Research shows that exercise, such as Pilates, can help ease symptoms and allow the body the opportunity to rehabilitate itself.

Poor posture is one of the most important causes, as it can exacerbate an existing injury or condition.
Neck pain does not need to be debilitating, as research shows that exercise such as Pilates, can help ease symptoms and allow the body the opportunity to rehabilitate itself.
A study published in the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies showed that people with moderate neck pain found relief from participation in a six-week Pilates course. This course involved a one hour Pilates session per week. Participants were advised to continue their three times a week home program in addition to the class. At the end of the program, participants had improved function of their neck and back. One reason for this is that Pilates focuses on correcting and maintaining proper postural alignment to create more efficient and functional movement.
Starting Pilates
Good physical habits are at the forefront of optimal neck health, which is why patients that suffer from neck pain can benefit greatly from a Pilates workout program. Pilates Can is regularly hosting client workshops to focus on certain conditions. Here is the relevant workshop for neck pain, which we call “Using Pilates to Ease Your Neck Pain”.
At Pilates Can, we keep our class sizes small, so our qualified instructors have the time to focus on your body’s individual needs and advise you on the best Pilates exercises for your specific condition.
If your condition is more vulnerable, we provide private and semi-private sessions, which use specialised Pilates equipment, and allows your instructor to write a personalised Pilates exercise program specifically for you. This specialised program can be varied each session and is specifically aimed at enabling you to manage your neck pain safely and successfully.
